Risk Management for Non-Profit Boards of Directors--York Region

Non-profit organizations face many of the same legal requirements and risks as for-profit businesses do. They face additional challenges and risks when working with volunteers and serving vulnerable populations.

This seminar will focus on understanding and addressing the legal requirements and risks faced by nonprofits and charitable organizations. In particular, it will focus on the issues associated with:


• proper governance structures, including by-laws and critical organizational policies;
• the basics of financial risk management;
• respective roles and responsibilities of senior management and the Board of Directors;
• working with staff;
• working with volunteers; and
• serving vulnerable clients.

o Upon completion of this seminar you will appreciate:
• What is required for an effective by-law.
• The critical policies to address problems in the workplace.
• The respective roles of the Board of Directors and senior management.
• Key Elements for constructive staff and volunteer relations
